Lyrics - Lets Hang the Landlord

I was classic bullying material strictly speaking,
I was 4ft tall with a 3ft mohican,
I bunked off school and bought some tattoo ink,
Engraved ‘punk 4 life’ on my arm with a safety pin,
I was sleeping in a park and selling The Big Issue,
But this ain’t no sob story so don’t reach for the tissue,
Cos these Spanish punks took me under their wing,
Opened a squat in Clapham Common they let me move in,

This place was fucking huge, I couldn’t believe my luck,
But it was no stranger to the odd ruck,
I was sharing a room with this bloke called Jeff,
He had rotting teething and world’s worst breath,
But we had such a time graffing up all the walls,
Day trips to Brighton when the occasion called,
Drinking red wine and Coke, playing our music loud,
On a shitty old tape player we sung it proud,
We used to sing,

If we hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
We can live here forever without a care,
So let’s hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
And we’ll live like a millionaire,

We looked out for each other, as a group we were tight,
All coppers are bastards but we were alright,
Painting our leather jackets, soaping up our hair,
We looked like aliens out of anywhere,
If the tourists wanted a photo we would charge them a pound,
When we had enough we’d buy a bottle and pass it around,
A bag of cheap glue Evo Stick, Fix a fix,
And whatever we could find got thrown into the mix,
We used to sing,

If we hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
We can live here forever without a care,
So let’s hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
And we’ll live like a millionaire,

Me and Al always blagged it into gigs for free,
Sneaking in our own cans after a robbing spree,
Getting chased out the offy and halfway down the street,
Smiling at the girls we thought looked sweet,
And Puff used to give me all his hand me downs,
He had a great big heart but he done too much brown,
Sarah used to look out for me, make sure I was alright,
When Alan and the bigger ones got in a fight,
We used to sing,

If we hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
We can live here forever without a care,
So let’s hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
And we’ll live like a millionaire,

A couple years ago the tramps in Piccadilly told me Aaron had died,
My head spun around till I sat on the kerb and cried,
And I found myself sitting on Puff’s begging patch,
Well I ain’t seen him around,
I pray that he didn’t lose the match,
Now Al’s in prison and he was the sensible one,
Don’t let the bastards grind you down mate, our time ain’t begun,
Don’t let the screws get in your head and fuck you up,
Cos when you get out we’ll string that landlord up,
And we can sing,

If we hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
We can live here forever without a care,
So let’s hang the landlord from the top of the stairs,
And we’ll live like a millionaire

Lyrics - Photosynthesis

Well I guess I should confess that I am starting to get old
All the latest music fads all passed me by and left me cold
All the kids are talking slang I won't pretend to understand
All my friends are getting married, mortagages and pension plans
And it's obvious my angry adolescent days are done
And I'm happy and I'm settled in the person I've become
But that doesn't mean I'm settled up and sitting out the game
Time may change a lot but some things may stay the same

And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I yeah I won't grow up

Oh maturity's a wrapped up package deal so it seems
And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams
All your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will
Have to grow up be an adult yeah be bored and unfulfilled
Oh when no ones yet explained to me exactly what's so great
About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate
Look I'm meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity
Well if that's your road then take it but it's not the road for me

And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I yeah I won't grow up
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up

And if all you ever do with your life
Is photosynthesize
Then you deserve every hour of these sleepless nights
That you waste wondering when you're gonna die

Now I'll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to begin
Now I'll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to begin

And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all yeah I won't grow up
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won't sit down
And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up

Lyrics - The Real Damage

I woke up on a sofa in an unfamiliar house,
Surrounded by sleeping folks that I didn't know.
On failing to find my friends, I decided that it was
clearly time to go.
So I made my way out of the door as quietly as I could

There was no one there I knew to say goodbye –
Squinting in the sadly sobering sunshine of the Sunday
morning light.

I started the night with all my friends and I ended up
alone,
Oh yes I started out so happy now I'm hung-over and
down.
It was about then that I realized I was half-way
through
The best years of my life.

So I scanned the local landmarks, trying to find out
where I was,
And maybe even find a bus back home.
I was longing for a shower, and for clean sheets, and
a charger for my phone.
And suddenly it hit me that I got paid this Friday
last
And so I rifled through my pockets for some change.
But all I found was a packet of broken cigarettes and
sinking sense of shame.

I had to ask myself, well,
Is it really worth it?
Is any of this worth it?
Well the whole thing's far from perfect,
But I've yet to figure out a better way to spend my
time.

Too many suits and dirty looks made me rack my
brains,
And the real damage started to sink in.
It'd been quite a heavy weekend, but I could just
about remember where I'd been.

I stood on a street corner, and I felt a little sick.
It was about then that I realized I was half-way
through
The first day of the week.

Song decision

We decided on just 3 songs from our shortlist, these songs are:
Frank Turner - The Real Damage
Frank Turner - Photosynthesis
The King Blues - Lets Hang the Landlord

From these songs we will now copy the lyrics of the songs and write our first ideas for a video with the lyrics. The song which we most would like to do and the song with the best ideas we will choose.

Shortlist of songs

Here is the shortlist of songs which we decided on together and from these songs we will choose 2 or 3 songs to continue some more research and ideas for these songs. We will do this by getting the lyrics to the songs and along side writing the ideas and thoughts that we think of by the words they fit with.

Another song which we have added to this list is
Frank Turner - The Real Damage.

Songs and Videos I liked and analysis.

Second Meeting

For our second meeting we re-gathered our ideas and songs, from here we each decided on a few songs each to go away and watch the video's and review some, this will possibly create ideas for our video or show things to steer away from.

Wednesday 9 December 2009

First meeting.

Our initial meeting we each put across our first ideas and thoughts on where to go with this task. We began by researching into existing music and music videos for inspiration and ideas. Each of began searched and found song's that they would like to and feel like we could create a video for. After finding a song we wrote down the track name and artist. after choosing 4 or 5 songs each we came back together again to exchange our ideas. With a list of roughly 15 songs, we began to sort through them. While Jake and I were chatting over our ideas Tom and Alex discovered a certain singer/ song writer, named Frank Turner. Many ideas came from this artists songs and lyrics, we then decided to research thoroughly into this artist plus many similar artists. Meanwhile Jake and I continued to exchange ideas for other songs we could use.
From this we narrowed down our choices but also create more in the process.
We then left ourselves with the ideas to discuss in the next meeting.

Creating our group and initial decisions

For our media studies coursework we were first given the task of deciding weather to create a music video, movie trailer, a computer game or a radio podcast. Firstly, we made a group consisting of myself, Tom Foreman, Alex Wood and Jake Clements. As a group we decided to produce a music video.
This will challenge our skills not only to film and edit but also to use photoshop as will also create a album cover or digipack, and a magazine advert to go along side the video we will make.
